One of the most underrated bands in existence put on an overwhelming, upbeat, and daring performance to a sellout Paramount crowd last November. A total of twenty-five songs were played to the die-hard Boingo loving audience. The show included all of the band's best songs, past and present, and was performed in a highly original fashion with props and occasional animation clips projected on the wall behind the stage. The words best used to describe the show are, "an all out musical attack on the audience," which is the way the fans wanted it. If you were there, you saw a great band please over 4,000 people. If you missed it, that's your loss. It was spectacular.
OINGO BOINGO ~ DEAD MAN'S PARTY (1985; 9 songs)
Despite obvious pop overtones, this 8-piece band from Southern California has pulled together another collection of mind-expanding tunes. Coming off of 1994's mediocre So-Lo (in which Danny Elfman takes full credit), it seems that Boingo is back in gear. Tunes such as "No One Lives Forever," "Fool's Paradise," and the title track demonstrate the band's continuing musical evolution while the remaining songs are faithful to the old Oingo Boingo form. This one's a keeper.... 4 stars, really.
