I caught OB at the Mammoth Events Center in Denver (now the Filmore) in 1987,
I believe. It was my first 'real' concert, after the likes of REO Speedwagon
and Kenny Loggins. I was mving up in the world.
14 years later, a lot of the show still sticks with me, but some details are fuzzy, mostly because I was wearing glasses at the time, but had failed to bring them with me.
First an foremost, I don't know if it was the band who chose the warm-up music (there was no opening act), or the venue, but they played the Pretty In Pink soundtrack- twice- in its entirety. odd....
After the show began, the details become more sketchy. What I do recall seeing (remember- I had no glasses) is that I thought Vatos' drumset was up on TOP of a massive bass drum, so that when he used the bass pedal, it went all the way to the ground and hit the large bass drum. must have been seeing things...
The other things that I recall (with GREAT clarity) are these:
A pit began at the beginning of Who Do You Want To Be, and a guy lost his contact lens. The pit cleared out until he was able to locate it, then converged again. Those were different times...
The other was that there was a man in a leather jacket in the pit, with razorblades in the elbows of the jacket, and he would swing around with his elbows out trying to clip people. I was one of the ones who got clipped (lareg scar on my arm) before he was politely dragged off and creamed in a corner of the floor. Oddly enough, I believe the song being played was No Spill Blood......
there you are...
wonderful site
