Mr. Quamp recently sent me his Oingo Boingo concert memories and I have posted
them here along side my own. If you want to contribute to this Concert Memory
page, e-mail me and let me know!
Boingo Concert T-Shirts
Aside from the music and the congregation of (and communion with) fellow
fans, one of the coolest things about attending Oingo Boingo shows was buying
a concert t-shirt memento of the event. The artwork and the colors on these
shirts were always worth the $20-30 charged. But aside from being visually impressive
and imaginative, every Boingo shirt I've owned, or seen upon another person,
seems to follow a guideline of presenting skulls, skeletons, insects, lizards
(or other strange critters) who are dancing, playing instruments or smoking
cigars. They kinda remind me of Grateful Dead shirts and posters, only somehow
more vibrant and without that rustic hippy-dippy psychedelia quality to them.
Here are scans of the Boingo shirts I have owned over the years. Some of these shirts are pretty worn out and needed some re-construction work in PhotoShop. I now know how those guys who restored the Sistine Chapel murals must have felt... rebuilding art is tedious work:
Dead Man's Tour (1985)
BOI-NGO Tour (1986)
Boingo Tour (1994)(I know, I'm cheating on that last tour... I wasn't there. I do own the shirt, the 'Farewell' video, CD and cassette, tho. mattro)
Other Boingo memorabilia *
Incidently, the artist who designed a great many of the Oingo Boingo concert
t-shirts, buttons and posters... Mark Ryden... designed the graphics for a CD-ROM
game called 9. Check out this product
description to see the awesome (very Boingo-esque) artwork Mark created
for this game. Need more? Well then visit the Mark
Ryden homepage.

Ebay where pictured items were put up for
bid. I've found Ebay to be a great place to find Boingo artifacts and this is
the end of my little plug. mattro
