Gayler, a Vietnam veteran and peace activist, was arrested for squirting strawberry syrup on retired General Norman Schwartzkopf at a book signing in Kirkland, WA. The war commander was autographing copies of his best-selling book, It Doesn't Take a Hero. As he was being led away by police, Gayler shouted that the profits from the book came from spilled American blood. Epilogue: Michael Gayler was arrested and charged with fourth degree assault, but a jury eventually deadlocked over his case after 3-1/2 hours of deliberation. Charges against him were eventually dropped.
