RAPTORIAL, SEATTLE

From the Spring of 1987 to the Fall of 1988Raptorial produced and distributed four issues in the Seattle area.

The goal of this do-it-yourself publication then (much as it is today) was to provide a forum where those involved could speak their mind on any and every topic. The slant has always been anti-corporate, anti-shadow government, anti-drug war, pro-choice, pro-Bill of Rights, etc. etc. In other words, most of the Raptorial staff are a bunch of "lefty, communist scum" (Guess what? it's fun!). Never limiting ourselves to politics, we also presented cartoons, collages, poetry, short fiction, and bizarre commentary.

The funding for each issue was raised by selling ad space to cool Seattle area businesses and through staff financial contributions. Each issue had a circulation run of 1,000 to 1,500 copies.

Shortly before the second issue went into production, one of the Raptorial co-founders, Paul Slusher, moved to Boulder, CO where he produced four issues in that town on an impressive monthly schedule beginning in late 1987.

Historically speaking, Raptorial began as an ambitious mutation of another DIY 'zine, Other World, which several of us had published in high school.
