Countdown (Adam Horovitz remix)

In support of Ralph Nader's campaign for the presidency of the United States, four talented record producers have made spoken word recordings featuring the voice of the candidate himself. The four are Adam Horovitz (a/k/a Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys), David Was of Was/Not Was, Hal Willner (long-time sketch music coordinator for "Saturday Night Live" and the producer, most recently, of Lou Reed's Ecstasy), and D.T. Productions, a young producer from Mt. Vernon, New York. The project was initiated by Bill Adler, a recording professional and Nader supporter. "Disgusted as I am with two-party politics, I thought it was crucially important to support Nader, who has long been a hero of mine and who represents a soul-stirring alternative to the big-money candidates. It was very gratifying to reach out to some of my musician pals and discover that they felt the same way," says Adler. "These recordings put some modern beats to the best of Ralph in bite-sized pieces. I thought he could use the rhythm." Nader, the legendary consumer advocate, is running on the Green Party ticket. Three of the four spoken word recordings were assembled using excerpts from two recent speeches by Nader, one given at the Green Party nominating convention and one to the NAACP.
