At Your Delightful Movie Theater of Joy!
I didnt know until it was over that this was a Wayans Brothers movie! Shows you what an out-of-touch fellow Mark Prindle are. Either way, I chuckled a helelelelelelelck of a lot. The jokes are disgusting, perverted, sex-, fart- and poop-oriented, and there are way too many male sexual organs displayed for my tastes, but still very funny parody of Scream, Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer. In fact, if you havent seen those movies, theres almost no point in seeing this one -- you wont get the "subtleties" of the parody (like Screams mustachioed good-natured policeman being reduced to a retard who poops in his pants and masturbates with a vacuum cleaner). Some of the jokes, of course, fall flat on my ass. But I like reading Hustler, and a lot of these jokes are straight out of Hustler (race-oriented, homosexuality-oriented, blowjob-oriented, etc etc etc), so it kept me chuckling enough for me to ignore the fact that there were about fifteen different fart jokes in the script. I also enjoyed how they threw in parodies of other poplar thing-ma-jiggers (including The Usual Suspects, The Matrix, The Sixth Sense and a popular commercial of the day) and made fun of black people even though, you know they ARE black people. I may be overanalyzing the situation. Quite frankly, its a film with a lot of shit jokes and fuck jokes. But no boobs. Like Orgazmo. If this interests you, lick it and stick it! And enjoy your sugar babies!
reviewed by Mark's girlfriend, Brenda Aske This ones an absolute delighta mile-a-minute, sharp parody of a conglomeration of modern movies. And although it starts off making the obvious Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer jokes, it soon expands to poke fun at films outside the whore-horror genre like Reservoir Dogs, American Pie, and even a little mockery of the standard Shakespeare in Love audience. Id say that the Wayans brothers are back, and have far exceeded my expectations. They find a common ground between the hysterical harshness of Chris Rock and the 4th-grade level fat jokes of Eddie Murphy. Clever boys, those Wayans. I found my uptight, semi-Republican self laughing a hell of a lot, and pleasantly grossed-out a hell of a lot. Between Cheri Oteris perfect performance as the tough reporter, slapstick comedy thats about a billion times better than anything the Three Stooges ever did, and the surprise appearance of at least 2 penises and a butt plug, this movies got almost everything. Although not as brilliant as the humor found in The Family Guy or The Simpsons, and not as socially valuable as a circa 1981 Hustler magazine, Scary Movie is a summer must-see. Overall rating = 8 Eberts! |
