Matty!

Glad to hear you survived yesterday. Sounds like everyone had a good dose of pepper spray and tear gas.

Channel 7 (KIRO, Seattle), in my opinion, did the best job at not dwelling on the "terrible, terrible scene in downtown Seattle". Their reporters were good about telling it like it was, no extra drama. I agree with your assessment- 99% of the protestors were peaceful while 1% was fucking up the scene for everyone else.

My cousin in Switzerland called to ask if the family over here was OK...we've managed to make news across the globe.

Question for you- how are WTO delegates chosen? Perhaps if we started with a more democratic way of CHOOSING delegates, we'd have more representation worldwide. Regardless, the current protesting is necessary to wake us up to the myriad of atrocities that most citizens are unaware of. Reform is key.

Each country has its own method of choosing delegates. The United States' method is a standard Presidential appointment with Congressional approval.

I've heard rumors that some of the third world country's methods may be as random as "El Presidente" sending his favorite cousin. Who the 135 delegates are and how they were appointed is a Pulitzer Prize winning story waiting to happen.
