Well, okay... Jello Biafra, Kim Thayil and Krist Novoselic probably won't be playing songs from their most famous bands (Dead Kennedys, Nirvana and Soundgarden respectively). But they are teaming up to fight the crime that is coming to Seattle in the guise of the World Trade Organization. Joined by Gina Mainwal of Sweet 75, they will play together Tuesday night as the No-WTO Combo. Even the headlining act itself has a Phoenix angle to it. Spearhead, an awesome R&B, hip hop, reggae band of gypsies is lead by none other than Michael Franti. For those of you who have been living in a cave (or a major trade negotiation) during the '90s, Franti was once half of one of the greateast creative collaborations to ever speak truth to power: The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. Including DHofH, the average amount of time all these former bands have been gone is only 6.5 years. In musical terms, this is no time at all (Mozart's been dead over two centuries and people are still flowing the respect his direction). These guys aren't over the hill yet, so come flow them some respect. If nothing else, it will be interesting to see what the combined chemistry of three great deceased bands can come up with in less than a week (the amount of time the No-WTO Combo will have existed by the time they go on stage). If you currently love or have loved any of the bands mentioned above, the Showbox will be the place to be Tuesday night. With the madness of the WTO demonstrations swirling about like a background tornado, it's doubtful this show could be anything but historic (provided the city isn't burned to the ground earlier in the day). It's always possible the No-WTO Combo could suck but if you're really worried about that happening, perhaps you'd be better off going to see Nader debate a bunch of CEO types down the street*. *7 to 8:30pm
